Off-Bardway Performances

Ashland offers a number of venues for the performing arts -- the classics and avant garde, always innovative and compelling.

Camelot Theatre "Moon Over Buffalo" previews Feb 3 & 4 plays Feb 7 - Mar 7
This backstage farce tells the story of Charlotte and George Hay, an acting couple who are not exactly the Lunts. While on tour in Buffalo in 1953, in Cyrano de Bergerac’” (“the revised, one nostril version”) and Noel Coward’s “Private Lives,” fate gives these thespians one last shot at starring roles in the movie version of “The Twilight of the Scarlet Pimpernel.” And director Frank Capra (gasp!) is en route to Buffalo to catch their matinee performance. A valentine to theatre hams everywhere! http://www.camelottheatre.org/

Oregon Cabaret Theater "Red White and Tuna" previews Feb 10 & 11 plays Feb 12 - Mar 28
It's time for the Tuna high school July 4th reunion. Star Rivertree and Amber Windchime return to find things much the same in Texas' third smallest town. Wacky characters, lightning-fast costume changes and an unexpectedly sweet love story. Two busy actors play twenty characters. http://www.oregoncabaret.com/

Oregon Stage Works "Mouse Trap" plays Jan 28 - Feb 28
A dark and snowy evening, an English manor house filled with guests, and a murder that has everyone searching for WHO DONE IT!? Agatha Christie is at her most intriguing in this thrilling, wildly popular murder mystery! The longest running play in the history of the entire world! http://www.oregonstageworks.org/

Happy New Year!

Dear Friends,

We hope you all had a marvelous holiday season and are looking forward to a wonderful new year!

Our holiday saw us taking a 21-day cruise to Panama Canal and then jeeping through snow in Moab UT. From balmy tropics to bitter cold, we had to pack everything.

This is my first ever blog post for the Chanticleer Inn. Please come here to see information on upcoming events, breaking local news, ideas on things to see and do in the Rogue Valley and the occasional musing of an Ashland innkeeper. There is so much happening in this town and so much to share with all of you. The spring time is when I most actively do my research. There is always a new restaurant, gallery or service in town. So please return to this blog often and feel free to comment.

Where to start ...
On February 19th, in a few short weeks, the 2010 Oregon Shakespeare Festival's season commences. And what a line up of plays!

One of my favorite Shakespeare plays, Hamlet; authors, Jane Austen; film directors, Akira Kurosawa; and playwrights, Williams. Personally I'm excited about this season.

Our artistic director Bill Rauch promises some fabulous new plays. Given last year's performance, we all can look forward to being wowed again this year.

Please remember that spring time is low season, less people in town and great value in tickets and lodging.

As you know OSF is not the only draw in the Rogue Valley. Every season offers adventure, culture, and various events. Some spring events to keep in mind, and perhaps plan around:
- March 5-7 Oregon Chocolate Festival
- April 8-12 Ashland Film Festival
- April 23-25 Taste of Ashland
- Ashland's Gallery Assoc. art walk on the first Friday of every month
- Wild flowers start blooming at lower altitudes
- In February and March, the mountains will be getting a good base of snow. Consider bringing snow shoes or skis for a lovely afternoon in the Cascades, trails with stunning views are 30 minutes from the inn.
